The Portuguese are wonderful foodies who really know how to enjoy the celebration of eating and who slow it all down to a relaxing pace where one can enjoy taking hours for a coffee break or to really savor lunch with friends. Porto has been embracing their traditional cuisine with a hybrid mix of British/American Brunch Favourites so whether you like your pancakes light and fluffy, prefer your avocado mash on toast or an acai bowl , Porto caters for everyone's brunch needs. Personally, I don't think brunch is brunch without a cheeky mimosa or two, and thankfully - they cater for that too. Phew.
What a treat this was. Nestled away in one of Porto's trendy, artsy neighbourhood, stumbling across this little gem was one of my Porto highs. A boutique hotel, hidden behind the most unassuming of doorways, this elegant old building has been imaginatively restored. From the moment you enter it feels more like home than hotel with a creative kitchen vibe. It reminded me of entering a (sophisticated) kitchen pantry with homemade baked goods on show and aromatic herbs and spices. It was a beautiful sunny morning so we opted to dine in the garden. What a little suntrap that was. The brunch offering at ROSA was extensive and we found ourselves torn so we pretty much ordered everything on the menu (between four of us I might add). The pancakes were probably the highlight. ROSA was incredibly relaxed and indulgent and the staff were so friendly. I would love to go back and spend a few nights here as I felt I was only scratching the surface at Brunch.
Location: Rua do Rosário, 233
It is all about the pancakes at this little local hotspot, now quite overrun by tourists it isn't hard to see why O'Diplomata's popularity is soaring in the Porto brunch community. They offer 4 brunch menus with which you can sample everything from the healthy to the pure indulgent. The pancakes are stacked high and decorative and the coffee offering is on point. Queues are inevitable but worth the wait.
Location: Rua de José Falcão nº32
Choice, Choice and more Choice is what is on Zenith's brunch offering. The queen of brunch in Porto, Zenith have nailed it. They really are catering for everyone needs whether you are craving a bloody Mary or a caffeine fix, this is the perfect go to for your morning pick me up. Minimalist Nordic chic upstairs and eclectic party vibes downstairs I could have stayed here all day. Get down early to avoid the queues (although they move quickly)
Location: Praça de Carlos Alberto 86
No Frills and No Fuss are what to expect at this newbe to the Porto Brunch Scene. With a cute little terrace and rustic interior, owned by the Hairy \Biker (another popular brunch venue in Porto), Do Norte's offering is simple - two menus to chose from - The meat feast or the vegetarian, either way prepare for a lot of food so try and work up an appetite before you arrive.
Location: rua do Almada 57/59
A Coffee lovers haven, this latest concept space opened its doors in 2018 and seems to have its own unique following with a mix of locals and tourists alike. Its cool and trendy and a bit like 'wework' space where people can come to work or collaborate over coffee or indulge in the extensive brunch offering. More of a sweet tooth myself, my recommendation is the banana bread or the to die for french toast. Nom nom. Don't forget to check out the terrace at the back.
Location: Rua do Duque de Loulé 185-187
